Italy sells Maseratis on Ebay

Italy turns to Ebay to help it raise one million euros. Tens of cars used by the Defence Ministry, Police and fire brigades were auctioned off online, but the most expensive ones failed to attract a single bid.

Italy has been struggling for a few years and still is on a recovery path. The Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi initiated a procedure that made him really popular and gathered lots of support. About 150 cars were auctioned off on the local markets and online. It was part of a symbolic effort to cut huge administrative spending that sparked anger across the country.

The government hoped to raise one million euros, but it came a few hundred thousands off. So far, the government sold 52 cars and gathered just shy above 370.000 euros. However, the most expensive ones were not sold yet.

The Defence Ministry had to stay back and look how its fleet of Maseratis left their garages. Italian media called the nine luxury car lot the stars of the collection. However, these grand tourer luxury cars with sports capabilities failed to attract interest. Party, because of pricing. The cheapest model was auctioned at 23.000 euros, while the most expensive one close to 100.000 euros. The government still hopes to sell the vehicles by 16th of May when the auction ends.
