Chocolate doesn’t bow to economic crisis
The Easter chocolate eggs demand remains stable no matter if it’s the lowest point in an economical crisis or a period of prosperity.
With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that chocolate consumption is not only steady but it also increases near holidays.
According to the Syndicat de Chocolat, the French consume approximately 295,000 tones of chocolate annually, meaning that every person eats 4.5 kilograms each year.
The Germans seem to take things more seriously when it comes to chocolate, as they consume 9 kilograms per person, every year, while the Irish reach double-digits, each person eating 10 kilograms during an year.
In the UK, the British spent €279 millions on chocolate, in 2013 alone.
These numbers remained unaffected during the crisis.
But this sweets industry also comes with challenges of its own as prices for cocoa beans reached a new high, increasing by 7 percent this year in London.
