Car industry helps Italian economy
Car industry is one of the fewest branches working well in Italy. Recent data showed that trade surplus in February increased to 2.6 billion euros and most of it is related to car exports.
According to the same statistic, exports went up by 3.1 percent in the last year with. Car export reported the biggest growth within last 12 months. Italy is struggling to strengthen its economy and competitiveness. Although having the third biggest economy in Europe after Germany and France, Italians can't actually feel it because the country was rocked by financial crisis.
One of the fewest domains running well in recent months was the Italian car industry. Fiat Grup, Alfa Romeo and Lancia, but also luxury sports car manufacturers Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Pagani reported rising exports. Their main destinations were new markets in Asia such as Thailand, Singapore or Malaysia, but also United State and Europe.
Meanwhile, imports are not doing well. The survey unfolded in February revealed imports were down 2.5 percent within the last year because of decreasing consumer spending.
