Band’s silent album earned $20K on Spotify

The small Vulfpeck band came up with an ingenious plan to make some money from the $4 billion giant Spotify.

The scam they set up earned them $20,000 before Spotify caught up with them and ended their mischievous trick.

The band created an album entitled ‘Sleepify’ and advised their fans to play it on repeat at night, while they slept. The gimmick was that the entire album was nothing but literally sounds of silence.

Even though the band had about 1,000 fans who paid $0.007 for each song they listened to, the still made $20,000 in royalties.

Spotify said, in a spoken track called ‘Hurt’: ‘While they enjoy Sleepify and thought it was funny and clever, it violated their terms of content.’ The track was followed by another one with 30 seconds of nothing but silence.

Vulfpeck said they are yet to receive their revenue from Spotify and that they are not worried about any repercussions which might follow suit.
