Air France invests 50 million euros in first class seats

Paris to Tokyo, Hong Kong or Beijing takes too much time by 2014 standards, even flying at first class. But how would an eleven-hour flight be, standing in your own bed watching a favorite movie on a 61 cm HD TV?

Although it sounds too good to be true it's a fact thanks to Air France. The French flag carrier did not shorten the flight, but made it more pleasant. The French carrier unveiled it's new concept of a first class “haute couture” suite in Shanghai, in the race to provide the best conditions for increasing “high fliers”.

The so called seat that isn't a seat any more, but more like an armchair, turns itself into a 2.01 meter long bed, 77 cm wide. It will be one of the biggest seats/beds in the air. Each seat comes with its own 61 cm HD TV so time, or miles could fly faster.

Air France announced its 19 Boeing 777-300 fleet will be fitted each with 76 seats for an estimated cost of 50 million euros. However, this type of luxury does not come cheap. A round ticked could go as high as 9,000 euros.

Those 50 million euros were needed to propel Air France to the top of those companies. It's our clients who will judge the product. We are extremely proud of the result and extremely confident. The improvement in the range affects all of our classes and not only first,” said Fredric Gagey, Air France CEO.

Air France is one of the biggest airline companies in the world with revenues exceeding 30 billion dollars per year. Last year it carried around the world more than 50 million passengers and it has a total of 204 destinations across the world.
