A quarter million euros stolen in four robberies

A group of bank robbers was arrested by the Italian Police in Rome. Allegedly, the three men robbed at least four banks last year stealing in excess of 230,000 euros while dressed as police officers.

The group was under surveillance for a while and law enforcement officers managed to gather evidence of four distinct robberies. The group was well organized and especially well equipped. Their M.O. was standard. Armed with guns, they took hostages and gained access to safe deposits.

In July and October 2013 they robbed two branches of Banca Carige stealing 87,000 euros. In June last year they stole 80,000 euros from Banca Populare, while in August, Banca delle Marche was targeted. The three robbers got out with 65,000 euros. In every single robbery, the three men used Police uniforms, wigs and Financial Guard uniform to disguise themselves.

Numerous tips led the police to a garage at the outskirts of Rome where investigators found numerous hand guns and a sawed-off shotgun used by the robbers. Now the three men are facing 10 to 15 years in prison.
