$10 million yacht capsized at launch
The Bäden yacht, worth around $10 million, capsized on its first contact with water.
The boat was in the proccess of being delivered to its owner, whose identity was not disclosed, in Washington State.
When the crew members put the Bäden into shallow waters, they observed that it immediately began to tilt. After several unsuccessful attempts at re-ballasting the boat, the crew was forced to abandon ship as water was flooding the engine room. One man had to be pulled out through a whole rescuers chopped with an ax.
Now, the Northern Marine, the company that built the yacht, have to bear the expenses of the repairs after two years spent on building the yacht. The situation looks desolate as only the fiberglass hull is still usable: 'everything inside is toast—everything. Nothing's made to be submerged in salt water.'
Exactly why the yacht capsized upon launch is still unclear although the boat was 'lighter than other Northern Marine builds of similar length, thus requiring more ballast to sit on a desired waterline.'
